WelcomeI am a third year student studying BA (Hons) Primary Education (5-11) with a computing subject study at the University of Brighton.
I came to university after working for 3 years as a teaching assistant and nurture group teacher. I had some fantastic experiences at the school and truly ignited my desire to teach. I was able to learn a great deal from my colleagues and the children and carry this forward into my degree and placements. My degree has provided fantastic opportunities to develop my skills and knowledge base further, particularly with the computing modules I have completed. During my first year, we looked at how to use Scratch to teach children the basic elements of coding. Following this module, I have chosen computing as my subject study. During second year I studied Web Literacy, learning how to code with HTML and CSS which culminated in the creation of a webpage focusing on how to teach online safety across Key Stages 1 and 2. The second module in second year was Physical Computing, focusing on using the BBC micro:bit to teach children about input and output devices, as shown in the portfolio. My final year module was focused on creative computing, which involved exploring the pedagogies of teaching computing and culminated in the development of a series of lessons focusing on coding and physical computing that I then taught to a group of Year 5 children. |
